Cheryl Ann Quammen, 57, passed away peacefully in her Greeley home under Hospice care on May 31, 2024.
She was born September 20, 1966, in Clarkson, New York. She was adopted as an infant by Gene and Donna (Tanking) Turechek. She was raised in Rochester, New York, where she graduated from Churchville-Chili Senior High School. While growing up, Cheryl’s parents took her and her brother, Steve, on many RV excursions covering much of the United States and Canada. She attended The State University of New York at Brockport earning her Bachelor of Science degrees in business administration and criminal justice.
Upon moving to Colorado Cheryl interned at the Office of the State Public Defender in Fort Collins for one year and was employed at the Weld County District Attorney’s Office in Greeley for 13 years.
She married the love of her life, Thomas Quammen, on June 24, 2000. They had a son, Justin, on March 26, 2003. After having Justin, Cheryl chose to be a stay-at-home mom. Justin was the light of her life and she dedicated herself to raising him. She enjoyed volunteering at Justin’s school and church and cheering him on at his many sporting events.
She enjoyed spending time with her husband and son, especially their mountain getaways. They enjoyed ski trips in the winter and hiking in the mountains in the summer. Cheryl enjoyed many family trips with Tom and Justin. Her favorites were visiting many of the National Parks out west and the beaches of California. Cheryl was a nature lover. She also enjoyed sports, music, exercising and bicycling. Playing boardgames with stepdaughter Kari, her husband Anders and granddaughters Anja and Kjerstin was always a highlight and special time around the dinner table.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Donna Turechek, and her grandparents, Joe and Faye Turechek and Henry and Helen Grieveldinger. She is survived by her husband Thomas and son Justin; her brother, Major Steven (Kim) Turechek (United States Air Force, Retired), nieces Amy (Matt) Flemming and Amanda (Blake) Henry, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; stepdaughter Kari (Anders) Halseide, and granddaughters Anja and Kjerstin, all of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and stepson Christopher and step-grandson, Evan of Greeley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church located at 1800 21st Avenue, Greeley, Colorado. Following the memorial service a lunch will be served at the church. Following lunch, an inurnment will be held at Linn Grove Cemetery.
