Obituary

Miriam Alice (Copenhaver) Summerson ‘Copie’ was born in Taneytown, Maryland on January 15,1927 to Harry William Copenhaver and Laura Edith (Angel) Copenhaver. She passed away at the age of 98 on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Linden Court Nursing Home.

She graduated from Taneytown High School in1944 and then attended the United States Cadet Nurse Corps and graduated with her RN degree in 1948. Soon after graduating she answered an ad for a nursing position in Greeley Colorado and worked as an obstetric nurse at the Greeley Hospital until retirement. She married Dr. Donald Summerson in 1973. Together they enjoyed family, fishing, golf, gardening and traveling. Copie was kind and compassionate and loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by three stepchildren, Lynne Kelly of Bountiful, Utah; Susan Sargent of Olathe, Kansas; Michael Summerson (Ruth) of North Platte, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Summerson in 2007; parents Harry and Laura Copenhaver; first husband Mel Bedinger; five brothers: William Copenhaver; Merritt Copenhaver; Dwight Copenhaver; Glenn Copenhaver; Raymond Copenhaver; three stepsons Barry Bedinger; Paul Summerson, Jack Summerson and a granddaughter Megan Payne.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Adams and Swanson Mortuary 421 West 4th Street, North Platte, Nebraska. Inurnment will be held 2:45PM, Friday, March 7, 2025 at Linn Grove Cemetery Greeley, Colorado.
